On My Radar...March 21, 2019: Amazon vs. Retail

As regular consumers, you and I both know that Amazon is already pretty all-powerful. Retailers just got a reminder of that when CNBC reported on a Feedvisor study that revealed that 74% of consumers go to Amazon first when they want to buy something specific.


When I shared this statistic with a coworker, she added that many small businesses have to either partner with and sell their merchandise on Amazon or slowly go out of business if they try to rely on in-person customers. It’s sad but true, and it seems unavoidable. News like this makes me glad that there are sites like Etsy and Redbubble that still let independent artists have a platform for their work.


What do you think? Is this Amazon takeover a good thing or a bad thing for small businesses and retail in general?
